Job Description

Technical Assistant Newcastle

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Port Manager, your key responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • A point of communication between the Port Management Team and towage/lines crews;
  • Assist the Technical Manager and Operations Superintendent with day to day maintenance and operations;
  • General day to day office administration;
  • Assist in engagement of contractors for the provision of maintenance and repairs to the vessels, shore facilities or otherwise as required;
  • Assist with the provision of parts, PPE, supplies as required;
  • Monitoring, ordering and receiving stores and equipment;
  • Reporting of all mechanical problems and defects with the assistance of the Technical Manager;
  • Assist in organising and plan for compliance items to be carried out;
  • Assist in ensuring all safety equipment is maintained, repaired or replaced; and
  • Compliance with policies and operating procedures authorised by Svitzer and consistent with statutory obligations, including safety, Quality Assurance and ISM procedures;
Who we are looking for
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in the maritime industry;
  • An understanding of classification societies and statutory bodies with any matters relating to vessel certification/documentation compliance and variations of these;
  • Proven computer literate with competency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • Proficiency in using vessel planned maintenance software would be desirable;
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritise work;
  • The ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment, understand objectives and deliver results;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • High attention to detail and accuracy of work; and
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
