Job description

 

As a Document Controller you would be responsible for the following;

  • Create and maintain joint construction manuals (UJCM, UQJCM, and other)  in accordance with current HSE legislation and ensuring safe working practices. This involves the interface with the Development Engineers and Technicians during the qualification build process, documenting all build instructions, and assisting with the Technology Transfer to the Jointer Training School to ensure clarity of documents and understanding of process.
  • Produce and maintain user documentation for JADE and maintain the change request procedure.  Liaise with Technical Direct and IS for all software changes. Production of technical and sales brochures & information in multi-media for symposiums and exhibitions. Create and maintain DAIs (Document Assembly Instructions), Storyboards and all associated sub-programmes.
  • Manage change requests from Development Laboratory, Jointer Training School, the Fleet and the Universal Jointing Consortium regarding changes to GMSL construction manuals, and ensure upgrades are included in the Explorer and Host Data Base.
  • Complete control and production of the UJ & UQJ Explorer on behalf of the Universal Jointing Consortium. This entails artwork design, control of contents, software amendments, copying, dispatch, maintenance of records and communications with subscribers.
  • Control and issue of Kit numbers for the Universal Jointing Consortium.
  • Updating the Host Data Base on behalf of the Universal Jointing Consortium.
  • To create and maintain GMSL BOM’s and Consortium BOM’s (Bill of Materials) within the Host Data Base. This involves the interface with the Development Engineer and Design Engineer during the design phase of the joint, and ensuring that this information is available to Suppliers and the UJC via the Host Data Base after design freeze.
  • Assist with all technical queries surrounding the BOM’s and Construction manuals, providing detail responses if necessary.
  • Production and maintenance of Operation and Maintenance Manuals and Equipment Check Sheets in accordance with current HSE legislation and ensuring safe working practices. Maintenance of the change request procedure.
  • Must be able to work on own initiative and without supervision.
  • Provide technical input to the UJ Sales Manager for UJ/UQJ products.
  • Maintenance of the Kit-Search facility on the UJC website via JADE. Compilation and maintenance of Qualified Cable Combination data in conjunction with the UJC Coordinator for publication on the UJC Website and Explorer CD ROM.
  • Production of ad hoc documentation for UJC and GMSL use.
  • The above activities are all interconnected and change to one aspect has repercussions for others. So an overall duty is to determine how changes impact with each other and make the appropriate changes to other areas. Eg a development changes impacts on several construction manuals, BOMs, JADE, website etc.

 

Job requirements

 

You would require the following;

  • Qualified to HNC & Degree Level with extensive experience in the field of universal jointing technology, particularly with regard assembly and kitting requirements.
  • Considerable knowledge of Word, Excel, Acrobat, JADE, Coral Draw, SolidWorks, FrontPage and their application
  • A working understanding of the use of networked computers operating in the Windows XP environment.
  • Ability and willingness to switch disciplines from one job to another in order to maximise efficiency throughout Cable Operations.
