Director of Cranes New York, NY Salary $130,000 - $150,000

Flagship Management is currently looking to recruit a Director of Cranes for a major terminal in the Northeast.


Job Summary

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure that equipment is properly maintained
  • Promote team-work between management staff and labor in order to achieve constant process improvement and operational effectiveness
  • Review operational data and downtime history in order to develop alternative parts or procedures
  • Must have the ability to read, understand, and trouble shoot electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems
  • Director needs to have a familiarity with RCM (Reliable Centered Maintenance) programs
  • Must provide administrative support to the ILA workforce to ensure that the container cranes on facility meet or exceed both OSHA and accepted industry standards
  • Ensure a safe working environment, meeting and or exceeding all government & company rules and regulations related to equipment and people


Responsibilities and Duties
The Director of Cranes has administrative oversight to:

  • Responsible for administrative oversight of the clerical and labor staff of the Crane department
  • Ensure that the ILA Crane Maintenance workforce perform their duties in a safe, professional and efficient manner
  • Ensure proper staffing of the department
  • Ensure that all cranes and crane equipment meet all OSHA standards pertaining to this type of equipment and that all applicable records are maintained up to date
  • Review daily manning requirements and payroll
  • Review & approve all department expenses
  • Track and record crane equipment operating, maintenance and repair hours and costs
  • Review records of equipment usage and downtime in order to develop strategic planning for equipment upgrades, and new equipment procurement
  • Manage new equipment procurement and upgrade projects, which include writing specifications, putting jobs out to bid and evaluating responses
  • Review and approve all crane department purchases.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent certified Technical Training
  • 7-10 years’ experience managing, supervising or working with Container Cranes, Cargo handling equipment or similar Industrial Equipment Systems
  • Must have good skills with office computer systems including the use of spreadsheets, word processors, databases, email, and CAD systems
