My name is Siddhesh Potkar, Regional Head of Procurement for Svitzer AMEA and I am looking to hire a Category Manager (with additional Procurement SPOC responsibility for Bahrain and Liberia) to join the Svitzer family based either at Alexandria/Cairo/Port Said in Egypt or Mumbai in India

You will play a significant role in the creation of a lasting culture of teamwork, lessons learned and knowledge sharing by drawing support from members within Svitzer Globally as well as Regional and Country Procurement colleagues. I am passionate both about our team and the business and my style of communication is open, collaborative and direct. I appreciate that you are upright, structured and collaborative in your way of engaging with our team across functions within Svitzer AMEA Region.

You will report directly to me and become part of the Svitzer AMEA Regional Procurement Team and your peers and close co-workers are the Procurement colleagues in our operations covering the AMEA Region.

This role is located in Alexandria, Egypt. We work flexibly, not because there is a policy telling us to, but because it just makes good business and work/life sense and creates an engaging work environment.

Some ad-hoc travel may be required and this will be planned flexibly and based on yours as well as the business specific needs.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end responsibility of Marine Category Management for multiple categories and execution to support Svitzer AMEA region.

  • You will be a part of Svitzer AMEA Procurement team and must support and independently execute end-to-end sourcing projects across a wide range of procurement categories. This includes activities from developing ‘Total Cost of Ownership’ models to understanding cost structures to building the ideal negotiation strategy and execute accordingly.

  • Ensuring contract implementation and measuring performance is key to the role.

  • Cooperating with a broad variety of stakeholders is part of the daily job.

  • Regional ownership of categories - in close partnership with stakeholders, through keen understanding of individual business requirements and strong market and product knowledge, drive efficient category management and strategic sourcing behavior.

  • Drive and execute the Plan-to-Strategy and Source-to-Contract processes of Maersk Procurement Process Framework.

  • Develop and execute category strategies for optimization of operational and capex spend projects through strong project management and negotiation skills.

  • Active collaboration with business units, supply chain and suppliers to resolve operational challenges in the value chain.

  • Development, negotiation, and ownership of contracts for the categories across the region through efficient contract and compliance management skills.

  • Supplier relationship and performance management - Understanding supply market dynamics and ensuring clearer visibility of spend. Ensuring alignment with suppliers and driving implementation of SRM agreed actions, implementation of catalogues in the system.

  • Contract Coverage: Oversee and manage regional and local suppliers, developing frame agreements and long-term price lists, keeping cost and quality awareness in mind. Implementation of catalogues in the system.

  • Inventory: Define, execute, and monitor inventory strategies while supporting the buildup of local inventories and warehouse structures.

  • Demand Planning: Actively manage and reduce costs through bulk sourcing, consolidation, and timely inventory management.

  • Single point of contact for one/two operations in Svitzer AMEA and responsible to fulfill and support procurement and logistics activities for those operations, by promoting Demand-to-Delivery process and supporting Svitzer P2P understanding.

  • Analyze, evaluate, and consolidate suppliers used in the region using spend data in Svitzer AMEA – driving long term engagement and framework agreements through spend analysis.

 

Functional and Personal Skills

  • You should have a proven ability to achieve results both independently and as part of a team.

  • 6-8 years of work experience in a multinational company and/or international work environment within the fields of supply chain, procurement, category management and consulting, ideally from Marine Industry. Experience doing in procurement activities across in AMEA is a strong advantage.

  • Need to have strong project management and negotiation skills, legal and commercial understanding.

  • Very good in people relations/engagement. Strong stakeholder management skills - assertive and at the same time service minded with a clear focus on impact and value generation.

  • Self-driven with ability to think and envision, plan, and prioritize, and proactively execute projects in a time bound manner. Ability to challenge status quo, identify opportunities and drive improvements.

  • Excellent communication skills - both in written and verbal skills. Clear and persuasive English-language skills. Arabic language proficiency is a must.

  • Flexible to working in different time zones depending on job requirements to support operations in Svitzer AMEA region.

  • Analytical ability, eye for details, and problem-solving acumen with the ability to make sound decisions with imperfect information. A sound knowledge of Power BI, MS Excel and power point skills is appreciated.

  • Engineering or Business Economics background would be of great advantage.

  • Minimum qualification - Bachelor’s degree.
